Top 8 Off the Beaten Path Things to do in Denver this Spring
Article by Neil Walton, Real Estate Consultant/Denverite
It’s 85 degrees outside… the sun is shining… it’s Spring time in Denver! I dusted off the ol Piaggio Scooter and headed out on a cruise through my favorite city the other day. I got to thinking about what I wanted to be sure to do this Spring so I made a mental list of some of my favorite activities. The following is what I came up with…
If I missed something… I’m sure we’d all appreciate it if you could add it to the list. Always looking for something new!

1. First Friday in the Santa Fe Art District:
Go get some culture you heathen… and it won’t cost you a thing! Who is going to turn down free wine, food and art? The streets are filled and the shops get busy. The art is not the only thing on display, the people watching is fantastic. You get all types here. Make sure you park a little way down and walk over. There are some good parking spots over off Santa Fe and 11th.
2. Play Volleyball in Wash Park
On the weekends Wash Park is engulfed by a sea of Volleyball Nets. There is nothing better than grabbing a grill, a cooler full of beer, a few of your best friends and head over to Wash Park for a day of volleyball. There is always a game to be had for all levels of play. Even if you don’t have your own net there are always people looking for extra players… who knows… you might just make some new friends.
3. Intertube the Rapids at Confluence Park:
This one you have to be a little insane to do. Stop at you local gas station and buy a couple of truck tire intertubes. If your car is not big enough to hold a few filled tubes you can always get them filled at the REI across from Confluence Park. Bring them up to the top of the rapids and get ready for a wild ride. The course is perfect. You can take a few runs and then relax at the bottom with a picnic and a few cold ones on a hot day.
4. See a play at the Curious Theater
Well this one is really all year round. Go have dinner at Deluxe on Broadway and then make your way over to 11th and Acoma for a great night at the theater. There is always something unique and creative playing there. It is by far the best local theater house in Colorado. Do your self a favor and go see whatever they are showing. The upcoming performance of 26 Miles looks interesting.
5. Get some Cruiser Bikes and Cruise…
Denver is very bike friendly. Jump on the Cherry Creek Path and make your way through Downtown Denver or maybe cruise around Wash Park, Congress Park, Cheesman Park… wherever! It’s just fun to get on a bike in Denver and ride around.
6. Elitch Gardens on a Monday or Tuesday Night
Stay away from the weekends unless you love standing in line. Grab a few friends, jump on your cruiser bikes and head over to Elitches on a Monday or Tuesday evening. You’ll barely wait in line and will get a chance to ride all of the cool rides. You get some amazing views on top of some these rides around sunset. Very Fun.
7. Rockies Game
I guess this goes without saying. Have a few cocktails on the rooftop of Downtown Tavern and then make your way over to your $4 Rock Pile seats for a day of hot dog eating and beer drinkin. Wear a purple shirt.
8. Film on the Rocks
There are some really great hiking trails around Red Rocks. I like to go up there early and poke around on some of the amazing rock formations. After you do a little hiking, go grab your wine and picinic dinner and head into the beautiful Red Rocks Amphitheater to check out a classic movie. Last Summer I saw the original Indiana Jones. They usually have some live entertainment beforehand. Super cool!
Well… that is my list of things to do this Spring and Summer in Denver. We would love to hear some of your thoughts. Please add your favorite things to do in Denver below.
