In Denver lingo, LoHi is the “Lower Highlands” neighborhood just west of the central downtown area. Technically speaking, it's the neighborhood that is sandwiched between LoDo and the Highlands, or for those who are more familiar with the streets of Denver, the area that extends south of Platte Street, across I-25 and blends into 32nd Street. Are you with us?
When looking for the most happening restaurants, gorgeous city views, and trendy rooftop bars it doesn't get better than LoHi. And while this area has seen significant growth over the past several years, that also means we get to experience some really cool spots as a result of that development. It also has less of a busy city vibe and more of a super hip, laid back neighborhood with everything at your doorstep.
Want to spend the day exploring this unique and fashionable neighborhood?
Here is how we would spend one perfect day in LoHi:
Start your day off with a fresh cuppa joe at Metropolis Coffee. With their extensive variety of coffee drinks and laid back atmosphere, it’s a perfect way to begin your day!
Walk just a few blocks south and you’ll arrive at Root Down Denver. Serving globally-inspired cuisine, they aim to use only natural, organic and local ingredients. You’ll find a delicious menu to fuel your body with some needed nourishment for the day’s activities.
With a full stomach, head down and meander along the Platte River, the segment of the Cherry Creek Bike Trail that hugs the water. This is a great spot, regardless the weather, and can make you feel very far away from city living.
Don’t forget to stop in at REI, Denver’s flagship store. Complete with a rock climbing wall, premier outdoor equipment, and gear for even the most extreme nature-lovers, it’s easy to spend a few hours getting lost while dreaming up your next outdoor adventure!
Grab a quick siesta and spend a lazy few hours lounging in Commons Park to people watch and take in the view of Denver’s cityscape and the Rocky mountains just behind it.
Once you’ve had your fill of people watching, head on over to check out the shops in central LoHi. Peruse the eclectic jewelry and contemporary clothing at Ily Iley or the funky furnishings and home accessories at LuLu’s.
Before leaving the city for the day, make sure you grab a drink at Avanti Food and Beverage, the perfect place to enjoy rooftop seating, craft beer and cocktails, and an elective mix of cuisine from all over the world.
Locals know that no day is complete without a stop at Little Man Ice Cream! You haven’t tasted ice cream until you’ve sampled the unique homemade flavors they serve all summer long.
We hope you enjoy the unique and trendy LoHi neighborhood as much as we do! What are your favorite spots? Tell us in the comments below.
